FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS...

Here is a list of our questions we get asked. If you can not find an answer to your question please contact us! If it is likely to benifit other people we will add it onto this page!

How Do You Price Your Products?

We don’t believe in making huge profits through selling the materials and resources for your students so on the majority of projects we make only a few pence per pupil to cover administrative costs. Schemes of work are priced at £14 and depending on your circumstances depends on how we would like you to view the pricing. Take the following examples:

1) You are a teacher who has been asked to develop a scheme of work. You could spend 10 hours planning the scheme of work and locating materials or you could pay £14 to get the job done and enjoy your weekend. Working out at £1.40 per hour of your time saved.

2) You are a head of department looking to invest in a scheme of work for the school. Assuming that you intend to use the scheme of work for at least 3 years and that you have 3 terms per year that means your scheme of work is costing the school £1.55 per term.

3) Ofsted are due to visit this year and you are worried about the quality of your schemes of work. For £14 you can rest assured that the basis for the pupils learning has been catered for.

When can I contact you by phone?

Our phone desks are manned 24 hours a day 7 days a week where someone will be able to take a message and pass that on to the most suitable person who will ring you back as soon as possible. Since The DT Project is run by DT teachers, there are periods of time when some members of staff will be out of the office teaching, training or running insets. However if you phone The DT Project and are unable to get an answer to your query instantly you will be phoned back within 24 hours. You are welcome to email sales@thedtproject.com or info@thedtproject.com (depending which is more relivent) and someone will get back to you.

Whats In The Box I Will Get?

Theres a good little diagram on our 'How It Works' page but for each project we can offer:

  • Printed Scheme Of Work (Personalised with your schools name)

  • Printed Lesson Plans (you just need to add your SEN/EAL/Other pupils specific information and your schools risk assessment.)

  • Materials Preprepaired For Pupils (Some projects require students to make use of school resources - see project description for details)

  • USB Containing:

  • Editable Scheme Of Work

  • Editable Lesson Plan

  • Powerpoints For Each Lesson

  • Worksheets If Applicable

  • Anything Specifically Advertised In The Project

But My School Has Short/Really Long Lessons - How will your SOW and Lesson Plans Work?

Thats a good point and i'm glad you asked! We realised when we first started that this would be an issue. We plan our schemes of work to be initially 6 weeks long. I.e. 6 lessons which are vital to the project being compleated. We then go through and add 'filler' weeks where if the schools calendar means that lessons need to be cut out, they will not have any effect on the overall project. This is at the teachers descretion.

Lesson plans and schemes of work include extention excercises for longer lessons or more able students so that the lesson can be catered to the students needs. Equilly there is advice on what could be removed from the lesson if time is running out or tips on how to simplify the lesson for pupils who need more time on an excercise.

We feel this actually works better in practice. Teachers should be able to adapt their lessons and their terms work to cater for their students needs, and a rigid lesson plan can stifle creativity and negativly affect learning. Of course there is still a need for professional judgement as to how you use our ideas with each class. Feel free to change things round where needed. That goes for starters and plenaries too!

Is The DT Project Really Run By DT Teachers?

Yes! Thats the only way you can ensure that the resources you are getting were planned with the pupils in mind. When we plan our projects we think about GCSE criteria as well as the wider implications of design technology. We don't get the students making a keyring becuase we want them to be good at manufacturing keyrings! As DT teachers we understand the issues which DT teahcers face and that means we understand your problems! Feel free to contact us for a chat!

The downside though is that as mentioned above, there are periods of time when some members of staff will be out of the office teaching, training or running insets. However if you phone The DT Project and are unable to get an answer to your query instantly you will be phoned back within 24 hours.
