TAKEAWAY FOOD PROJECT...
"This project is all about pupils designing a balanced meal for a specific target market to be served in a takeaway container as shown in the photograph below. Pupils will research their user group, experiment with flavours and design the entire meal before cooking it and serving it in the trays included in the kit. This enthuses pupils creativity and offers a far more professional and industry relevant style project"

The Project
• To encourage creativity and complexity within students food designs.
• To gain experience of designing a real food product.
• To learn about complementary flavours and textures.
• To understand the industrial context of food technology design
• To design and manufacture a full takeaway meal.
• To develop understanding of designing for a market and to develop research and interview tecniques.
What's In The Box?
Who Is It For?
Resources You Need...
You will need a working food room (obviously!) and a range of basic ingredients for students to use. It is reccomended that pupils bring in specific ingredients which they intend to use though this depends on the schools food technology policy.
This scheme of work develops some more complex ideas for students and so is recomended for a higher ability year 9 group or year 10 in preparation for their exam course.
Each box includes a 'Bento' style container which students will use as a basis for their design. See the below images for more details. Students also have worksheets and resources they can use as part of the project. Price Per Pupil - £1.20
"This is a great project for bringing the focus of food technology back to the real world of designing and preparing food for a target market. Food technology is not just about 'how to follow a recipie' as if so often is in schools; but its about complementing flavours and designing for a specific target market ."
As a rough guide pupils will:
• Respond to the brief
• Research the target market
• Research complementary flavours and recipies
• Write a specification
• Develop design ideas
• Present their final idea
• Plan the manufacture
• Create their meal
• Evaluate and improve
• Extension: Develop the packaging for the product
